Chinese Volunteers

The Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps (HKVDC) ame into existence in 1854. It was disbanded, revived and survived under various titles, and was generally called ‘the Volunteers'. During the 1920s, local Chinese enrolled for the first time. The HKVDC personnel fought side by side with the regular forces during the Battle for Hong Kong in 1941.

Indian Soldiers

Looking back on history, there were Indian army units stationed in Hong Kong with British army. During the Battle of Hong Kong in 1941, the Indian garrison comprised the 5/7 Rajput Regiment and the 2/14 Punjab Regiment.

      

 

Hong Kong and Kowloon Independent Brigade

After the fall of Hong Kong, the Communist-led Hong Kong and Kowloon Independent Brigade was set up in February 1942. The Brigade integrated into the East River Column with a number of guerrilla units in December 1943. The guerrilla personnel included farmers, students and seamen. During the Japanese occupation, they rescued cultural elites, ambushed Japanese posts, and upset the enemy's supply lines.
