The museum is housed in what used to be Lei Yue Mun Fort, which was built more than 100 years ago as the most formidable redoubt in the territory and which played an important role during the Battle of Hong Kong in 1941. Today, the fort has been revitalised to present the 600-year history of Hong Kong's coastal defences. We invite you most warmly to visit the museum and enjoy the relaxed environment as you learn about the artefacts and relics on display and gain an insight into this fascinating part of Hong Kong's history.
Due to damages brought about by Tropical Cyclone Mangkhut, the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence is now closed for repair work until further notice. All remaining programmes in September 2018 have been cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
