The Gunpowder Factory
This distinctive circular brick structure was used to be a workshop in which ammunition was worked on. There are now ten small guns and two monuments erected in this place. These guns were made in Britain, Germany and China and excavated from different localities throughout Hong Kong. They are of different types, ranging from rifled to smooth bore and breech loading to muzzle loading. Visitors can study their differences and the development of guns. The two monuments were erected in the Hong Kong Cemetery over 100 years ago by the 10th and 14th Battery of the Southern Division of the Royal Artillery to commemorate their comrades who died in Hong Kong from 1888 to 1890, and from 1887 to 1889 respectively.
